Kansas City Chiefs: Ranking AFC West quarterbacks in 2019
RANKING AFC WEST QUARTERBACKS
NUMBER 3 – DEREK CARR
As I noted on Flacco’s entry, he and Derek Carr could have been flip flopped on here and no one would probably care. While I’ve always been in the camp of Carr being overrated, he’s younger and has more talent on his team this year. So he lands here, at number three.
In 2016, Carr could have been named the MVP were it not for an injury that caused him to miss the Raiders’ final game of the regular season that year. If Carr is healthy for that game, Oakland probably wins and that would have given them the AFC West title in 2016.
From there, who knows what happens, but the Raiders would have had home field in the playoffs. Would Carr have gotten past the Steelers? We’ll never know.
Since that MVP-like campaign from Carr, he’s been a disappointment and continues to struggle against the Chiefs. He’s won just two games against Kansas City during his career, with both of them coming in the Black Hole. Yup, he’s 0-5 at Arrowhead Stadium. Not only that, but he’s AWFUL at Arrowhead Stadium.
While there has been some buzz that Carr might not be in the Raiders’ future plans, they acquired Antonio Brown this offseason and have made some decent moves. It’s clear they’re trying to find him talent to work with.
Carr threw for 4,049 yards, 19 touchdowns, and ten interceptions in 2018 and started all 16 games for the first time since 2015.
