MOST INTRIGUING DRAFT PICKS – SEAN BRETZ, RHP (HOUSTON)

Sean Bretz only spent a year with the Houston Cougars, having pitched for Delgado Community College prior to his time at Houston. While at DCC, Bretz had a 7-1 record with a 3.00 ERA and struck out 54 batters, per Houston’s athletics official website.

The season prior to that, with Spring Hill College, he had a 1.57 ERA.

So, obviously Bretz has the chops to be a good pitcher. He had a 2.53 ERA with Houston this past year and looked to be used in more of a relief role. Sometimes he’d throw three or four innings, but for the most part, Bretz was a bullpen arm.

That would probably be what the Royals try to groom him as. As mentioned with Adam Lukas on the previous entry, relief pitching prospects are intriguing because the Royals simply don’t have many good ones right now.

Can Bretz work his way through the farm system and make an impact out of a major league bullpen?
