INTRIGUING DRAFT PICKS – CLAY DUNGAN, SS (INDIANA STATE)

The Royals loved them some shortstops in this draft, taking three of them in the first ten rounds (and two with their first two picks). In the ninth round, they added Clay Dungan out of Indiana State, who slashed .305/.406/.481 during his time with the Sycamores.

Dungan led off at Indiana State and proved to be an all-around good player for his alma mater. While the level of difficulty wasn’t as high as some of these other guys due to ISU being in the Missouri Valley Conference, he still proved he’s a good ball player.

With the amount of shortstops the Royals selected early in the draft, it’s possible that the Royals will have them learn different positions. If Dungan can make his way through the minor leagues and become something, perhaps he could be a nice option off the bench in the coming years.

Or, best case scenario, he’s a leadoff hitter for the boys in blue. Wishful thinking.
