Kansas City Chiefs: Grading each offensive position in 2019
By Cullen Jekel
Offensive Tackle
In 2018, Mitchell Schwartz started every game at right tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs while Eric Fisher started every game at left tackle. That was nothing new for either player.
Schwartz, who’s been with the Chiefs since the start of 2016, has played in and started every game since breaking into the league with the Browns in 2012. Last season marked the first time in his career he was named All-Pro.
For Fisher, he made the Pro Bowl for the first time as he started all 16 games for the second time in three seasons. In all, since being drafted first overall out of Central Michigan in 2013, Fisher has appeared in 94 games, starting 90 of them.
The goal is for these anchors to keep it up as, at least right now, the Chiefs have little depth at offensive tackle. Perhaps Erving, Allegretti, or even Wylie could be moved outside if one of Schwartz or Fisher go down. Unlike along the interior, the Chiefs have no other experienced true tackle on the roster.
Grade: B
The starters are solid, durable players, and they’ll need to continue playing at a high level without getting injured. Because if either Schwartz or Fisher go down, the makeup of the entire offensive line changes, and not for the better.
