Kansas City Royals: Issues with current rebuild
By John McCarty
A pitcher-heavy 2018 draft class have all shown promise thus far during the early portion of their pro careers
With a slew of draft picks in the 2018 draft, the Royals picked a beavy of college pitchers frontlined by Brady Singer. Joining him were Jackson Kowar (also from Florida) along with lefty Daniel Lynch (Virginia), Kris Bubic (Stanford) and Jonathan Bowlan (Memphis) before the Royals would select a position player, also a college product in Kyle Isbel.
Thus far, Singer has been promoted to Double-A Northwest Arkansas and it certainly appears that Daniel Lynch will soon be following. Bubic was recently promoted to Wilmington from Lexington.
While early and they are all somewhat more advanced (and pitching in a reportedly very friendly pitchers park in Wilmington) none of the pitchers thus far have come out early in their career and stubbed their toes.
Isbel himself is having a very good career at Wilmington, posting a slash line of .348/.423/.630 with an OPS over 1000. That’s very good. It also raises the concerns about the previously mentioned players and their disastrous complete lack of production.
One has to wonder just how quickly it is until Isbel sees the move up from Wilmington to Northwest Arkansas.
