ROYALS TOP FIVE PICKS IN MLB DRAFT

2008 – ERIC HOSMER (THIRD OVERALL)

For the fourth straight year, the Royals had a top-five selection and they used this one (the third overall pick) on Eric Hosmer, who played at American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida.

Hosmer was the most hyped prospect arguably in Royals history. The day he was called up was almost a holiday in Kansas City and it was clear that fans expected this guy to be the next big thing in our city. Those fans were right.

Hosmer was a celebrity during his time as a Royal and fans loved him. He had some massive plays during those World Series seasons including hitting the triple in the 2014 Wild Card Game and stealing home in Game 5 of the 2015 World Series.

The Florida native made it to his first (and to this point) only All-Star Game in 2016 where he won the MVP award in the midsummer classic. He finished his KC Royals career slashing .284/.342/.439.

Currently, Hosmer is a member of the San Diego Padres after inking a huge seven-year deal prior to the 2018 season.
