Kansas City Royals: Every top five draft pick in Royals history
ROYALS TOP FIVE PICKS IN MLB DRAFT
1993 – JEFF GRANGER (FIFTH OVERALL)
The Kansas City Royals didn’t have another top five draft pick until 22 years later and they went with Jeff Granger out of Texas A&M. Granger was a left-handed pitcher and spent three seasons with the organization that drafted him.
Granger made his MLB debut in that 1993 season and was just 21 years old at the time. He made one relief appearance that year and it did not go well, as he surrendered three earned runs in one inning pitched, good for a 27.00 ERA and 5.00 WHIP.
The rest of Granger’s Royals career didn’t go much better, as he threw just 9.1 innings in 1994 and had a 6.75 ERA in his two appearances that year. He didn’t see the major league mound again until 1996 where he made 15 relief appearances and 6.61 ERA in 16.1 innings.
Granger spent the 1997 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates and after posting an 18.00 ERA, he’d never make an appearance in the big leagues again. He was in the minors through the 2000 season but never did get that call-up again.
