ROYALS TOP FIVE PICKS IN MLB DRAFT

2010 – CHRISTIAN COLON (FOURTH OVERALL)

Looking back at the Royals’ first-round picks over the years, this one is the most shocking. Utility player Christian Colon was the fourth overall pick by the Royals in 2010 and even then it was a move that surprised a lot of people.

Colon was a talented player, but he was certainly not worthy of being the fourth overall selection that year. He obviously went on to have some big moments with the Royals, as his hits in the Wild Card Game and in Game 5 of the World Series are memories fans will have forever.

When it comes down to it, however, Colon was a career .263 hitter and only had 316 at-bats in four years with the organization. Not worthy of that fourth overall pick at all.

Since being DFA’ed by the Royals in 2017, Colon has jumped from team to team. The Royals signed him to a minor league deal in 2021.
