Kansas City Royals: Five round 2019 MLB Mock Draft
By Cullen Jekel
There are many more rounds than just the ones previously covered. In the end, the aforementioned selections diversify the Kansas City Royals’ farm system by adding a mix of positions as well as some older and some younger prospects.
By the numbers, I went with four high-school prospects and two from college. I also selected two primary pitchers, both righties, and another player who pitches part of the time, who’s a lefty. For position players, I went with two middle-infielders, one first baseman, and one outfielder.
The one thing I specifically targeted? Athletes.
Of course, all six of these young men are athletes, but I went with a shortstop under the age of 20 who can move around the diamond, a second baseman who has spent time at short as well as third, a young outfielder who can move around out there, a first baseman who’s spent some time on the mound, and a prep pitcher who was recently a star soccer player.
The hope is that all of these players will someday benefit the Kansas City Royals. The numbers say otherwise: only one in five drafted players ever make the Majors. For the sake of the franchise, the Royals need to beat those odds, not just in this draft, but all drafts.
These six players should give the Royals a solid chance at doing just that.
