NUMBER ONE – WHIT MERRIFIELD

When it comes to who should don the KC Royals cap come All-Star week, the answer is Whit Merrifield. While that doesn’t mean Merrifield will be the one representing the Royals, he most certainly should be their representative in Cleveland in July.

Why? Because Merrifield is the best player for the Kansas City Royals, that’s why.

He might not be the best hitter (though he is slashing .295/.353/.507 with seven home runs and 28 RBI), but he’s the best overall player. Simply put – Merrifield can do it all. He can hit, he can run, and he can play defense. Plus, he can play multiple positions!

Despite playing right field over the past two weeks, Merrifield is listed with the second basemen on the All-Star ballot, which means he’s going up against reigning MVP Jose Altuve as well as some other great players in the voting. Still – If any member of the Kansas City Royals has a shot at starting the big game, it’s two-hit Whit.

Whit Merrifield should have been the Royals’ representative last year, but Salvador Perez ended up being chosen to represent the team (which was a bit surprising since he was having a not-so-great season to that point).

Hopefully Merrifield gets to his first All-Star Game this summer because he was gypped out of it last year.
