NUMBER FIVE – JAKE DIEKMAN

Having a reliever represent your team in the All-Star Game is kind of a low blow, but Jake Diekman would deserve the nod if he ends up making it to Cleveland.

The Royals reliever has been the most reliable arm out of the pen to this point, making 25 appearances and throwing 23 innings during that time. He has an ERA of 3.13, a WHIP of 0.91, and leads the team with six holds.

Diekman is the likeliest trade candidate come the deadline because… well, let’s face it… He’s been the star of the bullpen and contending teams want reliable relievers for the postseason.

With all of that said, Jake Diekman COULD be the Royals All-Star candidate, but there are still more likely options. Again, a reliever representing your squad is the least exciting scenario, but at least Diekman would be a more respectable choice than Mark Redman.
