Kansas City Chiefs: Post-Draft 53-Man Roster Prediction
By Shade Piper
Fullback
Made the Cut: Anthony Sherman
Notable Snubs: N/A
After the Chiefs re-signed Sherman, the fullback job was his and the Chiefs actually have already cut his competition for the position in Aaron Ripkowski. Sherman will be the Chiefs fullback again in 2019.
Running Back
Made the Cut: Damien Williams, Carlos Hyde, Darwin Thompson, Darrel Williams
Notable Snubs: James Williams, Marcus Marshall
Damien Williams, Carlos Hyde, and probably even Darwin Thompson are all locks to make the 53-man roster. The final spot will be a battle between second-year back Darrel Williams and UDFA running backs James “Boobie” Williams and Marcus Marshall.
I went with Darrel Williams because with Damien Williams, Hyde, and Thompson there are plenty of receiving threats. This could make Boobie Williams’ main advantage over Darrel Williams (his receiving ability) less of a need. Boobie Williams does have a ton of talent though, so don’t be surprised if he beats out Darrel Williams for that final spot (I know sorry that’s a lot of Williams’).
Marcus Marshall is more of your typical runningback. He is a solid young player, but unfortunately for him, Darrel Williams is the same type of running back and has a year of experience under his belt. I forsee Darrel Williams using this experience to his advantage to win out the fourth running back spot in 2019.
In the end, it looks like it could be a tight battle between Darrel Williams and Boobie Williams for that final spot in the backfield. It will likely come down to who plays better in training camp and preseason games, so this is a roster battle to keep your eye on.
