Mark Fields, CB, Clemson

Gil Brandt of NFL.com had Mark Fields as his second-best UDFA cornerback. Fields was also projected to be drafted in the fifth or sixth round according to Lance Zierlein of NFL.com. Getting a guy that was projected to be drafted and was the second best available at the position post-draft is always a good thing.

Fields is a tough player to judge because he had limited playing time at Clemson, but his performance in the National Championship Game put him on the draft map. Playing at college football’s highest level and performing well is another plus with Fields.

He also has excellent speed, running a 4.37-second 40-yard dash at the combine. He has a lot to prove during camp, but there are a lot of questions still at cornerback for the Chiefs, so he could easily play his way onto the Chiefs’ 53-man roster.

Jalin Burrell, CB, New Mexico

Mark Fields may be a difficult player to judge, but Jalin Burrell is even more difficult. He wasn’t invited to the combine, played at a smaller football program, and only had one interception while at New Mexico.

Fields seemed to have the upper hand on Burrell based on what we knew about the two coming into rookie minicamp, but Burrell is the one that could be seen making plays during camp. Kissel talked about him making plays on day one and day two of camp.

The coaching staff is looking for guys who will do just this, show up and make plays. If Burrell can continue to get his hands on balls to break up passes during practice, he could easily find himself on the 53-man roster at the wide open cornerback position.
