The first month of the season has concluded for the Kansas City Royals. After the first three games of May, the Royals are 11-21, 9.5 games behind the Twins in the American League Central.

Despite the record, the Kansas City Royals saw its fair share of positives throughout April. This is an organization in the midst of transition, and progress should not be viewed solely by the Major League squad’s number of wins and losses. Yes, the record (or, rather, the competitiveness supporting the record) matters, but that alone isn’t what will make or break the 2019 season.

A whole slew of things need to be evaluated, including:

  • How the Royals are competing during games to how certain minor league players are performing at current stops in the farm system;
  • How a pitcher is transitioning to a new role to determining which pitchers are finding consistency; and
  • What value the team is getting from veterans to what value the team is getting from younger guys.

Of course, there’s more to be looked at than just what’s described above. For this article, I’m going to take a look at four positives for the Royals through May 1st. So, keep in mind that all stats are from before May 2nd’s matinee.
