Nebraska football had an impressive streak of 56 years in a row where a Husker was taken in an NFL Draft, dating back to 1962. Sadly, no Cornhusker was drafted in 2019, ending the streak at 56.

It was a bit surprising that no member of Nebraska football heard their name called in the 2019 NFL Draft, but that’s how it all went down. That means the streak will not expand to 57 straight years of a Nebraska Cornhusker being drafted.

There were three potential Huskers who seemed to have the best chance of being drafted and none of them were taken. Shockingly, this included Stanley Morgan Jr., who went undrafted and later signed as an undrafted free agent with the Bengals. While it’s great to see Morgan get a shot with the Bengals, him not being drafted was stunning.

Running back Devine Ozigbo wasn’t selected either, but found a home with the New Orleans Saints, which is a tremendous landing spot for him. Hopefully that pans out for Ozigbo and he can make the final cut in the Big Easy.

Tanner Farmer, as of this writing, has not found a team, but that should change. His ability to play both guard and center is going to attract several teams.

Luke Gifford, according to Parker Gabriel (see tweet above), thought he might have a shot at getting drafted, but it wasn’t meant to be. He did, however, end up with the Cowboys, so now he has a chance to make an NFL roster.

The streak was impressive and it had to end sometime, but it’s still a bummer. Last year seemed like when the draft streak would end, but quarterback Tanner Lee heard his name called late in the sixth round by the Jaguars. That was the only Cornhusker taken last year and Lee only played for Nebraska for one season.

The 2020 NFL Draft will be a chance for the Cornhuskers to re-start the draft streak, as they’ll be set up to have a much better season in 2019 than they did this past year. Scott Frost turned things around in the final month of the season and the Huskers were a completely different team in the second half of the year.

This streak ending has no bearing on what the future has in store for Nebraska football, but it was one of those things you could point to and puff out your chest a little bit. Best of luck to those Huskers hooking on with teams as a UDFA and hopefully their NFL dreams come true!
