Kansas State Football: Dalton Risner goes 41st overall to Denver
By John McCarty
Kansas State football offensive tackle Dalton Risner finds himself headed to the Denver Broncos after being selected with the 41st overall of the 2019 NFL Draft.
The wait is finally over. K-State offensive tackle Dalton Risner’s name is off the board as he finds himself headed to Denver with the 41st overall selection in the NFL Draft. The Kansas State streak of a player being drafted continues to 26 years.
The Broncos get a versatile offensive lineman as they look to knock off the Chiefs in the AFC West.
Who is Dalton Risner?
A native of Colorado, the center recruit signed with Kansas State in 2014. After redshirting his first year in Manhattan, Risner started the 2015 season at center before moving over to right tackle where he would become a three year captain for the Wildcats.

After his senior season this past fall, Risner did well enough to earn an invitation to both the Senior Bowl and NFL Scouting Combine. Risner was rewarded as an All American for his exploits during his senior season in 2018 for Kansas State.
Now that Risner has landed in the NFL with the Broncos, he likely projects to play right tackle or along the interior, areas that he has excelled at while in college. The Broncos had some issues along the offensive line, allowing 32 sacks in 2018.
Finding Risner at this spot in the draft is a great value and his new team will be pleasantly surprised to see just how productive Risner can and will be during his time. Risner likely plays early in the NFL and will provide great value from the start of training camp and into the regular season.

Kansas State now waits to see what and where running back Alex Barnes and cornerback Duke Shelley come off the board. Barnes had a strong combine and could find himself selected somewhere in the early portions of Day 3 of the draft while Duke Shelley appears to have recovered from a toe injury that ended his senior season and could find himself selected in the later portions of the draft.
The Broncos added Risner after having selected Noah Fant in the first round. They’re clearly trying to get better on offense and Risner is someone who can help them in the trenches for years to come.
