2018 NFL Draft: KC Kingdom Mock Draft

Round 1: Pick 8 – Miami Dolphins (Leigh Oleszczak)

Quarterback. Missouri. Drew Lock. 8. player. 59.

The Dolphins were determined to find their franchise quarterback and they gave up a lot to do so in this draft. Miami sent four total picks to Detroit in exchange for the eighth overall pick and landed Drew Lock out of Missouri.

The Dolphins signed Ryan Fitzpatrick to a deal this offseason, but anyone who thinks he’s the long-term solution hasn’t been following the guy’s decade plus long career. He’s a career backup, but has the potential to be a great mentor to a young prospect like Lock.

Lock is second all-time in passing yards in the SEC and while he shouldn’t be starting week one, could become a franchise guy for a team if they’re willing to be a bit patient with him. Miami is a perfect fit for the Mizzou gunslinger.

Staff Reaction: The Dolphins pull off a stunner going with Lock when, by all appearances, they moved on from the 2019 draft quarterback class. That being said, Lock can sit behind new signee Ryan Fitzpatrick for awhile before taking over down in Miami. The Dolphins sure paid a big price, surrendering two third rounders. They better hope they are right with this pick. – John
