2018 NFL Draft: KC Kingdom Mock Draft

Round 1: Pick 7 – Jacksonville Jaguars (John McCarty)

52. . Defensive End. Mississippi State. Montez Sweat. 7. player

With no team opting wanting to move up to this spot for a quarterback, the Jaguars take the ultra athletic defensive end Montez Sweat. With Marqise Lee returning at receiver and Nick Foles playing quarterback, the Jaguars land the elite athletic defensive end with the ability to be a star against both the run and passing game.

The Jaguars, despite their strength being the defense, must continue to stay young, fast and aggressive along their front and that is what Sweat does. He won’t be relied on immediately and can work his way through his defensive rotation.

With Andrew Luck and Deshaun Watson in the division, being able to get up the field at the quarterback is a must. In a deep draft at tight end, the Jaguars will likely target that need position in round two.

Staff Reaction: The Jaguars didn’t have to address the quarterback spot, so they were free to do what they wanted here. They landed one of the best defensive talents in this draft with Montez Sweat, who can hopefully play a role in getting their defense back to the dominant level it was in the 2017 season. – Leigh
