2018 NFL Draft: KC Kingdom Mock Draft

Round 1: Pick 14 – Green Bay Packers (John McCarty)

14. player. 49. . Tight End. Iowa. T.J. Hockenson

The Packers were able to net a fifth-round selection from Atlanta to drop down two spots, knowing they could land either of their three targets: T.J. Hockenson, Noah Fant, or D.K. Metcalf. All three were on the board two spots later, and the Packers netted perhaps the top combination tight end available in a strong and deep tight end class.

As current quarterback Aaron Rogers gets older, the Packers will need to make moves similar to what the Patriots have done with their tight end position and Tom Brady, providing strong receiving options in the short passing game.

Hockenson is a solid route runner and has good hands and can provide immediate impact in the middle of the field down the slot for a Packers offense in need of finding their way.

Staff Reaction: The Packers probably could have used a defensive player or a wide receiver here, but with Jimmy Graham‘s injury history and inconsistencies over the years, T.J. Hockenson isn’t a bad pick by any means. He should become a favorite target of Aaron Rodgers if all goes according to plan. – Leigh
