2018 NFL Draft: KC Kingdom Mock Draft

Round 1: Pick 13 – Detroit Lions (Kole Berrey)

50. . Defensive End. Michigan. Rashan Gary. 13. player

The Detroit Lions, coached by former defensive coordinator of the Patriots Matt Patricia, was in the market for a pass rusher. Guys like Nick Bosa, Josh Allen, Quinenn Williams, and Ed Oliver went off the board before the Lions were on the clock, so they decided to trade back a few spots here. Getting two third round picks from the Dolphins was a nice bonus, and Detroit was still able to get their guy here.

Rashan Gary is a physical phenom, and was the number one recruit in his entire class coming out of high school. His stats leave a ton to be desired, as he only had 3.5 sacks and 20 solo tackles in his final college season. That being said, Gary has a relentless motor, and the size, speed, and strength to challenge NFL offensive lineman.

Expect him carve out a roll early in this Lions defensive front. Pairing a physical guy with a high motor like Gary with another new face for the Lions in Trey Flowers could start causing problems for offenses later into the 2019 season.

Staff Reaction: Gary is the fifth edge rusher off the board, but in trading back, the Lions gain three additional 2019 picks plus another in 2020. Smart, on-brand move by an organization looking to mimic New England. – Cullen
