2018 NFL Draft: KC Kingdom Mock Draft

Round 1: Pick 10 – Denver Broncos (Cullen Jekel)

. Linebacker. Michigan. Devin Bush Jr.. 10. player. 45

The Broncos were rebuffed twice in efforts to trade up in order to select a quarterback. First, Denver offered a blockbuster deal to the Cardinals for the number one pick only for Arizona to take a different offer.

Then the Broncos reached out to the Lions to trade up two spots to number eight with the goal of drafting Drew Lock, only to get outbid by the Dolphins. And when Washington jumped to number nine, suddenly the Broncos were left with a less-than-ideal realization: the top three quarterbacks were off the board.

And so Denver, instead of reaching on Duke quarterback Daniel Jones or adding to the offense with Ole Miss wide receiver D.K. Metcalf, went defense, selecting Michigan inside linebacker Devin Bush Jr. Bush should be able to start from day one and help replenish a defense that’s seen its fair share of exits the past couple of seasons.

In a division that’s set to face the Chiefs’ high-octane offense twice per season, Bush’s versatility and quickness will come in handy. But Denver will still have to wait for its quarterback of the future.

Staff Reaction: Picking a linebacker at 10 may not be the sexiest pick for the Broncos. With D.K. Metcalf still on the board, and a need at WR after the departure of Demayrius Thomas and injury to an aging Emmanuel Saunders, the Broncos could’ve added another weapon for new quarterback Joe Flacco. But with Flacco in his prime, adding Bush to a defense that needs linebacker help makes sense. – Kole
