2018 NFL Draft: KC Kingdom Mock Draft

Round 1: Pick 9 – Washington Redskins (John McCarty)

The Redskins make the move up for a quarterback ahead of the Denver Broncos after the league is left stunned by the Dolphins pulling the rope-a-dope and moving up for Drew Lock. Dwayne Haskins, however, is a local product, having gone to high school in Potomac, Maryland.

Moving up for the signal caller is an expensive move for the ‘Skins, resulting in the Buffalo Bills walking away with an additional selection in the second round, 46th overall. However, the Redskins do also receive Buffalo’s fourth round selection, 112th overall.

The quarterback position has been a lightning rod of controversy after going year-by-year with Kirk Cousins, trading for Alex Smith and now trading for Case Keenum. Haskins won’t be asked to start immediately, but likely develops into a starter by the end of the 2019 season and can help provide stability to the position.

Staff Reaction: Washington sacrifices their prime second-rounder for possibly the draft’s second-best quarterback. With Alex Smith’s career in jeopardy and the underwhelming Case Keemun only under contract for 2019, a risk worth taking. – Cullen
