RANKING EVERY FIRST ROUND PICK IN CHIEFS HISTORY

NUMBER 22 – BRANDEN ALBERT (Amber)

Branden Albert was drafted in 2008 with the 15th overall pick and had a decent career in Kansas
City. He struggled at first to adjust to the pressures of the NFL, but then became a strong part of
the team and a top tackle in the league. An impressive 2012 season earned him a franchise tag
for 2013.

Before the 2013 draft, Kansas City was rumored to be close to a trade that would sent Albert to Miami, but chose to let that fall through in order to keep the franchise tag on him and hold onto him for the 2013 season.

However, Eric Fisher was drafted in 2013, which made it clear that it would be Albert’s time to walk at the end of that season. Just two days into free agency, Albert signed a five-year contract with the Dolphins worth up to $46 million.

Albert flourished in Miami, soaring against to the top of the offensive tackle ratings in the NFL and earning a Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro selection. The Chiefs missed out on what could have been a great trade.

Kansas City may have flopped on the trade opportunity and Albert may have had concerning injury struggles, but the first-round draft pick had a decent six-year tenure with the Chiefs and became a strong offensive presence on the team after a couple years.
