Kansas City Chiefs: Final 2019 NFL Mock Draft
ROUND 2: PICK 31 (63RD OVERALL)
I haven’t intended for every pick to this point to have three names, but that’s just how the cookie crumbled here, I guess. Anyway, with their third pick in the 2019 NFL Mock Draft and second in round two, the Chiefs add an offensive weapon in Stanford’s JJ Arcega-Whiteside.
The Cardinal receiver had himself a massive year in 2018, hauling in 63 receptions for 1,059 yards and 12 touchdowns. While he had a nice career as a whole, his senior season was easily the best of his Stanford career and is what put him higher on the draft boards.
The Chiefs are in a unique spot when it comes to the wide receiver position. They don’t HAVE to draft one, but it also shouldn’t shock people if they do.
For one, we’re still unsure of the Tyreek Hill situation and even if he is on the team come the start of 2019, are the Chiefs going to sign him long-term? If they don’t, Sammy Watkins only has a year left on his contract after 2019 and who knows what the future has in store for Demarcus Robinson and the other guys on the roster.
Arcega-Whiteside provides a number three option for the next year or two and then he could easily step into a more prominent role.
What analysts are saying:
"Arcega-Whiteside may not be explosive, but his competitive nature should help make him a future NFL starter. -Lance Zierlein, NFL.com"
