Kansas City Chiefs: Six defensive trade targets, Part Two
By Cullen Jekel
Gerald McCoy, Defensive Tackle
The Chiefs don’t have much on the defensive line outside of Chris Jones and, perhaps, newly-signed Alex Okafor. Sure, the team traded for Emmanuel Ogbah from the Browns, but since leaving Oklahoma State, Ogbah has underperformed. (Maybe a chance of scenery will help change that.)
Yet, an intriguing trade target to line up alongside Jones is currently on Tampa Bay’s roster. Some insights regarding the Buccaneers’ Gerald McCoy:
- There would be no cap hit for cutting him.
- As far as trade capital, he probably wouldn’t take as much to acquire as the rest of the players listed here.
- In all likelihood, he won’t be playing in Tampa Bay this upcoming season.
More about what it would take to land him: Kelly Thompson for FanSided suggested this trade a few weeks ago. In his scenario, the Chiefs deal their third-round pick, which is pick number 92.
That seems decent, but if the Chiefs were also to get back a pick from the Bucs, that would make this deal even more worthwhile. Since the Bucs, though, only own six picks this draft, even one in next year’s draft could seal the deal.
Also, if the Bucs can’t work out a trade for the 31-year-old former Oklahoma Sooner, the team could simply cut him. If that happens, watch for the Chiefs to lure him in from the open market.
