Kansas City Chiefs: 2019 NFL Draft Board Version 3
By Shade Piper
Options for the Third Round and Beyond who have Visited the Chiefs (Continued)
Dexter Williams, Running Back (Notre Dame)
There are a lot of late round running backs who could be steals. Williams is one of them. He doesn’t have a whole lot of on field concerns, but does have a couple off the field concerns.
If, after his visit, the Chiefs feel like his off the field issues are in the past and no longer a concern, he could be a potential target for them in the fifth round. The Chiefs need to draft one runningback to shore up their backfield rotation and Williams could be a good option to fill that role.
Alex Barnes, Running Back (Kansas State)
Like I mentioned above, the Chiefs will likely take a late round flier on a running back to add to their backfield depth. If given the choice between the two, Williams is more talented than Barnes, but Barnes has a good chance to make it in the NFL as well and everyone enjoys a good “hometown kid” story.
The Chiefs may consider going with Barnes over Williams if they are worried about the off the field concerns with Williams or if they’d rather wait until the seventh round to take a running back.
Sione Takitaki, Linebacker (BYU)
Sione Takitaki plays with relentless energy and this is a great characteristic to have at the linebacker position. This is also a characteristic that can make for an outstanding special teams player.
Takitaki does have concerns around his ability to make it as a linebacker in the NFL, but if you have a guy who’s going to go out and give maximal effort on every play it makes it a lot easier on the coaching staff to get him out onto the field and at absolute worse he will probably still be great on special teams. He could likely be available at pick 216 and Chiefs fans should love this pick if they decide to take Takitaki there.
