Kansas City Chiefs: Why trading Travis Kelce isn’t crazy idea

Kelce has history of ailments that could add up to rob right end of athleticism in coming seasons.
Travis Kelce is, as you read this, recovering from ankle surgery that will likely sideline him for much if not all of the offseason activities. The Chiefs believe he should be able to be back on the field in time for training camp.
Two years ago, Kelce had surgery on his shoulder. Kelce missed his rookie season due to microfracture knee surgery. He was knocked out of the playoff game against the Titans due to a concussion. These are injuries that people don’t bring up much, but they did happen and need to be noted when it comes to Kelce’s future as a Chief.
If Kelce (due to the combination of age and injury) loses some of his explosiveness and his ability to make plays in the open field, he really loses a lot of his value to the Chiefs offense. Andy Reid‘s offenses make good use of and rely on the tight end to make plays in the middle of the field. If the Chiefs have a concern Kelce could lose his edge, they may want to to make a move sooner rather than later.
If the Chiefs decide it’s time to make the move, it doesn’t simply impact the Chiefs on the field. Moving Kelce can save the Chiefs on the cap, though his cap number isn’t bad. However, with questions at the receiver position in free agency and the depth at cornerback still a question long term, his move could….
