The Kansas City Chiefs have set out to completely retool their defense. Gone are guys like Dee Ford, Justin Houston, and Eric Berry. Players added include Tyrann Mathieu, Emmanuel Ogbah, and Alex Okafor. Still, the defense has room to grow.

And by making these moves and others, such as letting center Mitch Morse walk in free agency, the Kansas City Chiefs have opened up a ton of cap room for the 2019 season. Plus, with last year’s trade of Marcus Peters to the Rams and dealing Dee Ford to the the 49ers, the Chiefs have two second-round picks in both this year’s draft and next.

Combine that cap space with that draft capital, and a trade could be brewing.

Exactly who the Chiefs target is up for the debate. The defense still needs help in the secondary; the current linebacker corps is underwhelming; and adding a veteran alongside Chris Jones would create wonders.

This article is the first of two in which I’ll take a look at six candidates for the Chiefs to acquire via trade using their draft capital as well as cap room. Two of today’s players are cornerbacks while the other is an outside linebacker. I believe that all three would improve the current state of Kansas City’s defense.
