The Kansas City Chiefs had the most impressive quarterback of the 2018 NFL season. Thankfully, since Patrick Mahomes stole the league’s stage, the Chiefs backup quarterbacks didn’t get much attention.

With Patrick Mahomes locked down as the QB1 for a long time to come, let’s take a look at the future of the backup position for the Kansas City Chiefs. They currently have four quarterbacks on the team.

It’s obvious that Patrick Mahomes is the man simply by putting the entire league on notice with a stellar MVP season in 2018. It’s extremely unlikely that anyone could supplant Mahomes as the starter.

Even with the MVP on the roster, the Chiefs should still look to reinforce their quarterback room. With the draft coming up, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Kansas City pick up a quarterback in the later rounds. There’s also the possibility that the Chiefs could shake up their quarterback room by signing or cutting a quarterback just before the season begins.

Could the Chiefs even make an unexpected trade for a talented young quarterback to push Mahomes in his second year as a starter? What if that talented young quarterback were on the roster in the unfortunate event that Mahomes goes down to injury? This backup would need to have the swagger and impetuous to run coach Andy Reid’s high-powered offense.

It’d be great if the Chiefs could maintain the backup quarterbacks currently on the team and find a way to add another before the season begins. Hopefully, the backup position will be improved before September. Let’s take a look at who is currently on the roster and also look at a wild future possibility at the position.
