Mizzou Football: Ten NFL teams for wide receiver Emanuel Hall
By Cullen Jekel
Miami Dolphins
Round 3, Pick 78
Miami looks like a team wanting to burn down everything the old regime had built, and for a new, more successful product to rise in its place.
It started with the firing of head coach Adam Gase. Before the Super Bowl, word broke that New England linebackers coach Brian Flores would be named Gase’s successor. One day after the Patriots defeated the Rams, that rumor came to fruition. Now, with two ex-Patriots overseeing things in Flores and general manager Chris Grier, a total rebuild has begun.
The Dolphins are a team intent on the future. For that reason, they dealt starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill to Tennessee while replacing him with the bearded, grizzled Ryan Fitzpatrick. Danny Amendola, who led the Dolphins in receptions (59) and receiving yards (575) left in free agency for Detroit. Returning wide receivers include Kenny Stills, Albert Wilson, DeVante Parker, and Jakeem Grant.
The only problem with that last sentence is that the Dolphins top wide receivers are Kenny Stills, Albert Wilson, DeVante Parker, and Jakeem Grant.
So, help at the wide receiver position is needed. But don’t count on the Dolphins addressing that need early. After all, they need a bunch of other things, too. And if observing the Patriots has proved anything, it’s that a team doesn’t have to draft wide receivers early to be successful.
For that reason, don’t expect Miami to take a top wide receiver at No. 13 or No. 48. But if Emanuel Hall is available at No. 78, that would almost align perfectly with his overall prospect rankings. Plus, he’s a big-time burner, and Fitzpatrick played his best football last year with the Bucs when going deep to Desean Jackson.
The Fitzpatrick-to-Hall deep ball would be a fun little reprieve for Dolphins fans in 2019 while Hall gets his feet under him, gaining useful experience to apply when Miami finally finds their next franchise quarterback.
