San Francisco 49ers

Round 3, Pick 67

In 2018, 49ers receivers ranked tied for 23rd in the NFL in receptions with 331 while ranking just below league-average with 26 touchdown receptions. Outside of tight end George Kittle, no 49er had more than 42 receptions or more than 500 yards receiving. And while San Francisco has made numerous moves, most notably bolstering their defense by signing linebacker Kwon Alexander and acquiring Dee Ford, the only wide receiver the team has added is Jordan Matthews, he of 20 receptions for 300 yards and two touchdowns with the Eagles in 2018.

Not exactly inspiring. Room for improvement remains.

Thankfully for the 49ers, the organization has three selections in the first 67 picks of the draft. One of those selections should be used on a wide receiver so that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, when he returns, has another option outside of Kittle and wide receiver Marquise Goodwin. If the team passes on a premiere wide receiver prospect at No. 2 while addressing further needs at No. 36, then pick No. 67 is where general manager John Lynch could strike.

Pairing Emanuel Hall alongside the 25-year-old Kittle for the 27-year-old Garoppolo would give the 49ers an exciting, relatively young group around which to build the passing game. For head coach Kyle Shanahan, 10-22 in two seasons as the leading man, such an enticement to his bosses and fans can’t come a moment too soon.
