Arizona Cardinals

Round 3, Pick 65

For the second straight offseason, the Arizona Cardinals opted to hit the re-set button. After head coach Bruce Arians (briefly) retired alongside quarterback Carson Palmer, the Cardinals went with first-year head coach Steve Wilks while drafting Josh Rosen out of UCLA with last year’s No. 10 pick. Oddly, they also signed quarterback Sam Bradford, a decision that cost Wilks his job, might cost Rosen his (at least in Phoenix), but didn’t seem to affect general manager Steve Keim.

To replace Wilks, Keim chose Kliff Kingsbury, offensive coordinator at USC for about 27 hours and, before that, head coach at Texas Tech for six seasons. In that time, Kingsbury led the Red Raiders to two winning seasons and a 35-40 overall record.

Classic Bidwells.

Now comes ample noise about the Cardinals moving on from Rosen in favor of Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray. Regardless of who’s under center for Arizona in 2019, another wide receiver is needed.

In 2018, as the Cardinals finished 3-13, the seemingly ageless Larry Fitzgerald led the team in receiving yards with only 734. Rookie Christian Kirk played well, catching 43 passes for 590 yards with running back David Johnson adding another 446 and tight end Ricky Seals-Jones totaling 343 yards.

Fitzgerald turns 36 in August. Every season seems like it could be his last in the league, and yet he continues playing, and producing well. Yet, the Cardinals need to keep building for a future without him. That means adding more wide receivers, and they could do that with pick No. 65.

This might be a reach for Emanuel Hall. Keep in mind, though, that he’s the 13th ranked wide receiver (on average). As mentioned with the Panthers, a run at the position may cause him to be taken a bit higher than his average positional ranking.

Hall going at No. 65 wouldn’t a complete reach.
