Kansas City Chiefs: 2019 NFL Draft Board Version 2

Targets for the Chiefs’ First Round Pick – Continued
Brian Burns, EDGE (Florida St)
Okay, enough with the cornerbacks. There’s also a big need for a pass rusher. The Chiefs dumped both of their outside pass rushers from last season and it leaves them with a lot of questions at defensive end. Brian Burns could be the answer.
Burns, while not the biggest EDGE, turned in the third fastest 40 time at his position at the combine. If he can add a little strength and weight while keeping that speed, he could become a great pass rusher in this league.
Burns could come in and immediately give the Chiefs some depth at defensive end and compete for a starting spot as well. If the Chiefs decide to go with an EDGE instead of a cornerback, Burns is probably going to be the best EDGE that will be left on the board at pick 29.
Jachai Polite EDGE, (Florida)
Jachai Polite didn’t clock the most appealing time in the 40-yard dash at the combine, but that doesn’t do justice to his on field play speed. He is a natural pass rusher with sneaky speed. Polite wasn’t the fastest or biggest EDGE at the combine and only started five of his 13 games this season which is concerning as to his long-term abilities.
He did, however, lead the Gators in sacks with 11 and led the country in forced fumbles with six. I’m not sure whether to be more impressed that he was able to put up those numbers in only five starts or be more concerned by him only getting five starts all season.
He does come with more concerns than Burns does, but Polite is almost guaranteed to be available at 29 while Burns’ availability could be questionable at 29. If the Chiefs are set on drafting a pass rusher in round one, Polite would be a very good option for them if Burns is already off the board.
