Kansas City Chiefs: First 2019 NFL Mock Draft after free agency
ROUND 7: PICK 2 (216TH OVERALL)
Two picks later, the Kansas City Chiefs are on the clock again. This time, they go with Edwin Alexander out of LSU. Alexander spent three years in Baton Rouge playing for the LSU Tigers, serving as the nose tackle the past two seasons. He racked up 28 tackles and one sack last year as a junior.
The LSU nose tackle opted not to play in the Fiesta Bowl in January due to declaring for the draft. His decision to forego his senior season was a bit surprising, considering he won’t be higher than a Day 3 selection.
"Alexander, who has had knee issues throughout his LSU career until only recently, is not expected to be drafted higher than the middle rounds and could drop as low as the last two rounds in the sixth or seventh or not be picked at all. So, it’s possible there will not be much money at all."
By round seven, teams are hoping to add depth and that’s precisely what this pick would be. The Chiefs have Derrick Nnadi as their nose tackle and he did decent in that role as a rookie. Alexander would simply serve as a backup nose tackle and perhaps he could be transitioned into another role if need be.
