ROUND 6: PICK 41 (214TH OVERALL)

As I mentioned earlier on, this mock draft was conducted before the Chiefs brought in Bashaud Breeland. Even with Breeland being a Chief, adding cornerbacks is never a bad strategy. For their second to last selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, KC goes with Hamp Cheevers out of Boston College.

Cheever didn’t see a ton of playing time in 2017, but he appeared in 12 games last season. The 2018 season saw Cheever total 39 tackles, seven defended passes, and seven interceptions. He returned one of those interceptions to the house for six points.

Boston College doesn’t typically see players leave early, at least not very often, but Cheevers was a special player. He led the FBS in interceptions last year with seven and the Chiefs would love to have a cornerback on board who can haul in picks.

With Bashaud Breeland and Kendall Fuller as the starters and the Chiefs adding Lonnie Johnson earlier in this mock draft, adding another later on probably isn’t the likeliest scenario. Hamp Cheevers, however, could be a nice addition if this happened to be the pick made.
