Kansas City Chiefs: First 2019 NFL Mock Draft after free agency
ROUND 5: PICK 29 (167TH OVERALL)
The Chiefs wanted to grab a tight end earlier in this mock draft, but they would either be reaching on a guy or the player simply didn’t feel like a good fit. Fortunately, this is a very deep tight end class, so they were able to wait until Day 3 to grab their tight end.
Zach Gentry is who KC went with and the three-year star at Michigan actually played quarterback as a freshman. He was transitioned into a tight end after his freshman season and went on to do a decent job with the Wolverines.
Last year, Gentry hauled in 32 receptions for 514 yards and two touchdowns. Those are definitely backup tight end numbers in the NFL and pairing a guy at Gentry’s size (6’8″ and 262 pounds) with Travis Kelce would be a nightmare for secondaries to cover.
Gentry isn’t going to light the world on fire, but his size would be a perfect pairing with current starter Kelce. The Chiefs have plenty of options at tight end, but Zach Gentry could be a great pick.
