Kansas City Chiefs: First 2019 NFL Mock Draft after free agency
ROUND 3: PICK 28 (92ND OVERALL)
One thing pops out when looking at David Long‘s numbers while he was a senior at West Virginia this past season: The dude is a tackling machine.
Long recorded 108 tackles with 19.5 of those being for loss. He also notched seven sacks for the Mountaineers and forced two fumbles (recovering one) and defending four passes. In other words, David Long is a talented defensive player and that was indicated by him winning the 2018 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.
The biggest issue with Long is his size. He’s 5’11” and 221 pounds, according to his profile on Sports Reference. That’s not exactly NFL linebacker size and could be a big reason as to why the Mountaineer linebacker is still on the board in the third round.
The Chiefs need help at pass rush, especially since they just shipped Dee Ford off to San Francisco and released Justin Houston. Long might not be an immediate starter, but he’d be a nice rotating option at the linebacker spot.
