ROUND 2: PICK 29 (61ST OVERALL)

The Chiefs don’t need a cornerback as much now with the signing of Bashaud Breeland, but the more, the merrier. The position can see a lot of injuries occur, so depth is important at cornerback.

Lonnie Johnson spent the last two years at Kentucky, having played at Garden City Community College and San Bernardino Valley College before getting to Lexington. He had a decent run with the Wildcats, totaling 64 tackles, nine defended passes, and one interception in two seasons.

The Chiefs are set with their starting corners now that Breeland is in town. He, paired with Kendall Fuller, will give the Chiefs a much better situation at cornerback than what they were working with in 2018.

Johnson could come in as a rookie and potentially play slot corner, filling the role that Steven Nelson once had. While this mock draft was done prior to Breeland being signed, it’s still a pick that could make a lot of sense.
