Right?
Patrick Mahomes should be feeling giddy right now. Not only did his general manager and coach land him another weapon out of the backfield in Carlos Hyde, but the new defense is taking a well-rounded shape. Plus, there’s still money to spare on additional pieces, such as another edge rusher, of which they are still plenty to choose, including guys like Clay Matthews, Ziggy Ansah, and Muhammed Wilkerson.
As of this writing, aside from Conley (who grabbed five touchdown passes in 2018, nothing to sneeze at), all of Mahomes’ top weapons from the end of 2018 return in 2019. Expect some additions to the offense, especially regarding depth along the line and with wide receivers, perhaps including a local product:
If the activity during the first week of free agency is any indication, the 2019 Chiefs will be another product worth watching, this one even more capable of winning the AFC. But there’s only so much Mahomes can do. Hopefully he’s encouraged by these moves.
