The biggest storyline to follow with Mizzou football at the moment is where will quarterback Drew Lock go in the 2019 NFL Draft? USA Today thinks he’s Miami bound!
Drew Lock played all four years of his college career with the Missouri Tigers and now he’ll be headed to the NFL to play football professionally. Lock is nearly a lock (pun intended) to be a first round pick for a variety of reasons, but the main one being how important the position is in the sport.
Nate Davis of USA Today put together a mock draft that includes the moves made in free agency this far and has Lock landing with the Miami Dolphins.
"Probably going to be a veteran under center in Week 1, but Miami will need a young quarterback to build around amid its latest reboot."
Davis isn’t wrong with his analysis here, but it’s hard to see Lock falling to pick number 13. Davis has Kyler Murray going first overall and Dwayne Haskins landing sixth overall to the Giants. That means he thinks the Broncos are going to pass on a quarterback and that surely can’t be the case, right?
As for the Dolphins, they’re a mess right now and desperately need a quarterback, as Ryan Tannehill won’t be back under center for them in 2019. They had previously been trying to get Teddy Bridgewater to come to town, but he ended up returning to New Orleans to back up Drew Brees.
The Dolphins now have limited options when it comes to the sport’s most important position. They can either draft one in the first round (and will likely have to trade up in order to do so), they can sign one in free agency, or they can do what many will recommend they do in attempting to trade for Josh Rosen.
If the Dolphins land Rosen, they won’t be needing a quarterback, but who’s to say that’s even the route the Cardinals are going to go in? They traded up to land Rosen last year and it’d be way too soon to give up on the guy.
If Miami opts to target a quarterback in the draft, they’re probably going to have to trade into the top seven or eight picks. Denver is a team who should be eyeing a quarterback and they pick three spots ahead of the Dolphins.
Davis did note that the Broncos could go after a quarterback, but had them drafting a linebacker instead. Joe Flacco isn’t reason enough for them to pass on a signal caller in round one like they did last year. Flacco is simply a stopgap guy.
Drew Lock would fit in well with the Dolphins, but when push comes to shove, it’s hard not to see him going in the top ten. Teams overdraft on quarterbacks now and Lock won’t get past the Broncos at pick ten.
Where do you think Lock will land in the 2019 NFL Draft?
