TANOH KPASSAGNOH

It’s hard to imagine a player being more miscast and played out of position then than 6’7″, 290 pound Tanoh Kpassagnon being asked to play linebacker. With the transition of the Chiefs defense to a 4-3 scheme away form the 3-4 scheme they had run under Bob Sutton, the Villanova product should get the opportunity to show ability likely playing his far more natural position of defensive end. However, if he can’t, he won’t be in KC much longer.

No, he’s not overly expensive and his release doesn’t exactly save the Chiefs a bunch of money. Due only a $1.374 million salary in 2020, there is only $320K dead money on a release, saving the Chiefs $1.054 million in the event of a release. It’s that if he’s unable to produce, you can find help with that money considering the lack of dead money makes it almost a free and clear situation to move on from.

That the Chiefs tried him as a linebacker indicate either they have zero capacity to evaluate talent (they have Breeland Speaks gallivanting around as a linebacker as well, which concerns me that this could be the case) or, they have concerns about his ability to play at this level.

Of course, that raises another concern considering the Chiefs used a second round pick on him, but mistakes are made in this game, and we move forward. Regardless, we will find out soon enough whether Kpassagnon can plan and will stick around or if he’s on the road out of town.
