TRAVIS KELCE

Father time is undefeated and star tight end Travis Kelce is approaching the point in his career where the Chiefs need to start considering a replacement for the fan favorite. Due to count $10.468 million against the cap in 2020, if the Chiefs traded Kelce, they would save $6.531 million against the 2020 salary cap while only incurring $3.936 in dead money.

Travis Kelce will turn 30 this season and the organization is starting to make, what appears to be, a conscious effort not to hold on to players deep into their 30’s. Kelce’s contract, one that pays $10.468 in 2020 and $9.00 in 2021, is certainly not a bad contract or one that would be difficult for a team to take on.

During the Combine, the Chiefs reportedly visited with five tight ends whom could interest the franchise. Certainly at a minimum the Chiefs could use depth at the position, but adding a player this draft to replace a player next year could certainly be a strategy the organization wants to take in an effort to stay young and maintain a quality cap situation.
