Anything in specific the Cats are looking to emphasize in recruiting?

It’s different for different positions. I think two that stand out are length and speed. You didn’t hear the previous staff talk much about specifically wanting tall, long players, but we’ve heard this staff make clear those things matter to them (specifically on the offensive line and at linebacker).

And, of course, every team wants speed. That’s not unique. But, this staff openly talks about it more, and it’s also going to be a group that always recruits heavy at defensive back.

Position battles to keep an eye on?

More from Kansas State Wildcats

It would be easier to tell you the position that won’t be a battle, which is starting quarterback. Skylar Thompson will be the guy.

Every other spot will literally be thrown open for competition, as every player gets a clean slate with this coaching staff. I really could go through each and every position and call it a battle worth watching. Even backup quarterback, where true frosh Jaren Lewis has a real chance to earn that job.

What players will be vital to the Cats in 2019?

Skylar Thompson is obvious, but he shouldn’t go without mention. It’s going to be vital for new offensive line coach Conor Riley to be able to find a starting five he likes for this offense to succeed.

Tight end Nick Lenners is going to be a big key coming off an ACL injury in the season opener last year. A lot will be asked of Hubert, and the Wildcats are going to need to find a group in the secondary they feel confident in, as well.
