The NFL free agency is nearly here and, as always, there will be a frenzy of moves being made by teams around the league. Each team has a unique set of needs and the Kansas City Chiefs are no different.

While the Kansas City Chiefs have a variety of positional needs, addressing the safety position should be higher on the list. The Chiefs began making defensive changes as soon as the 2018 season ended.

Bringing in a new defensive coordinator and scheme was just the start of the process to improve that side of the ball. Chiefs Kingdom could soon see some familiar players on their way out and some new players taking their places.

One of the higher priorities that Kansas City will address is 2019 is the secondary, specifically the safety position. Safeties Eric Berry, Daniel Sorensen, and rookie Armani Watts missed significant time because of injuries last season. With defensive changes and the uncertainty of these injuries, it would be wise for the Chiefs to add some talent here.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Kansas City select a safety in the first round of the draft. But before then, it would be great to see the Chiefs making moves to improve the position. Fortunately, Chiefs Kingdom won’t have to wait long to see what will happen.

The 2019 safety free agent market looks to have a little more depth this offseason. General manager Brett Veach has shown that he’s aggressive in free agency and 2019 should be no different.

Kansas City will need to look at bolstering the position and these players could help.
