Two words: Honey Badger. The Kansas City Chiefs looked like they were going to stay quiet in the early waves of free agency, but they came away with safety Tyrann Mathieu.

Many big name players got swooped up early in the tampering part of free agency, with Landon Collins leading the way. Collins is expected to sign a six- year, $84 million deal with the Washington Redskins. Him getting that level of money made it seem unlikely the Kansas City Chiefs would target the remaining big name safeties on the Market.

Tyrann Mathieu and Earl Thomas were looking to get paid, and Kansas City seemed poised to pounce on the second-tier of safeties that included names like Adrian Amos, Lamarcus Joiner, and the newly released Johnathan Cyprien.

Then the news hit that the Chiefs had an agreement in place to sign Mathieu to a deal that paid him the same annually as Landon Collins. Wow.

Chiefs fans everywhere were filled with excitement, especially a certain ketchup loving quarterback.

Now that the dust settled, let’s examine how the Honey Badger has played recently, and how he fits into the defensive plans of the Chiefs moving forward.
