Kansas City Chiefs: Wish list for 2019 NFL Draft
By John McCarty
Riley Ridley, Wide Receiver, Georgia:
Riley Ridley would be the interesting choice with the current talent at the wide receiver position (Hill, Watkins, Robinson at the top) and drafting him would stun Chiefs fans. However, Ridley is a tall, athletic quick receiver coming from a run first oriented offense with an inconsistent quarterback.
With good strong hands, good size and burst, Ridley could, with development and a good quarterback (checks to see if Chiefs have a good quarterback), Ridley could more than replace Watkins next season (likely cap cut after 2019). He’d easily be able to replace the production of Chris Conley, even just as a rookie. Ridley is not a household name yet, but he will be by draft night.
Yodny Cajuste, Offensive Tackle, West Virginia
Current starting left tackle Eric Fisher is not getting any younger or any cheaper and is a candidate for a long-term replacement. Yodny Cajuste could be the ideal candidate. Already bigger and more powerful than Fisher, Cajuste would spend the 2019 season as the swing tackle/learning and refining technique, specifically his footwork.
Having played left tackle at West Virginia, the senior was asked to partake in a lot of pass blocking as well as run blocking in space and with a year, would be a strong candidate to take over the left side. He’s not exciting and not on the defensive side of the ball, but I expect the Chiefs to select an offensive lineman earlier than some might predict, and in round two, if he’s there, Cajuste would be a solid pick.
