Kansas City Chiefs: Wish list for 2019 NFL Draft
By John McCarty
Multiple second round pick allows Chiefs to address specific needs and build young roster depth.
Amani Oruwariye, Cornerback, Penn State
Much like the reaction if a player like Byron Murphy is available in the first, an equal reaction would be likely if Amani Oruwariye is on the board in round two. Not as athletic as Murphy or as physical, Oruwariye does possess the smarts, quickness and ball skills to contribute immediately for the Chiefs. I’m not sure if he’s fast enough to truly take on the best of the best, but he can be a solid corner in the NFL if used properly.
If the Penn State product is asked to do a lot of run support or covering receivers deep, he may run into issues, however, simply covering people in the short to intermediate range is a strength as he has great feet and instincts. He’s not a number one corner, but can become a good number two type player.
Rock Ya-Sin, Cornerback, Temple
Less of the fluid athlete then Oruwariye, Rock Ya-Sin is far more physical. A one-year wonder of sorts after transferring to Temple from Presbyterian, Ya-Sin is much more capable of supporting the run.
Ya-Sin is a solid depth piece at cornerback with the ability to develop into likely into a number two type cornerback. A bit of a classic low ceiling, high floor prospect, this Temple product certainly can provide the depth at the position the Chiefs are in need of. I like Ya-Sin in the second round over Deandre Baker in the first.
