Kansas State basketball has just two games remaining in the regular season. They currently sit at the top of the Big 12 conference and are potentially two wins away from ending their in-state rival’s proudest accomplishment.

Kansas State basketball fans know that when it comes to college hoops, in-state rival Kansas is almost always better. Their 14 straight conference titles prove that the Jayhawks know what they’re doing when it comes to Big 12 play in the regular season.

This time next week, however, we’ll know who the winners of the Big 12 are and if the Kansas State Wildcats win their final two games, the conference title should be as good as theirs. That’d give them their first Big 12 title since 2013 and their first outright in over 40 years.

K-State and Texas Tech are both leading the conference right now, so the Red Raiders could certainly be hoisting the Big 12 trophy next weekend.

Kansas State’s schedule doesn’t seem too intimidating, as they’ll play TCU in Fort Worth on Monday and finish their regular season with a home game against Oklahoma. Both of those are winnable games, but K-State fans know that nothing is a given.

This team could easily be a top ten team in the country, but they, like most teams, tend to have a few of those dud games. The one against a lousy Texas A&M squad comes to mind immediately, as the Cats gave that one away.

They could have put this thing to bed a few weeks ago when they hosted Iowa State in Manhattan, but let that one get away from them. Hopefully these final two matches go well for the Wildcats and they can not only win the Big 12, but also end a streak that KU fans won’t shut up about.

This final week of the regular season is going to drag by for K-State fans, but it’ll only be the beginning for the Wildcats. After this, the Big 12 tournament will take place in Kansas City and that’ll be another opportunity for Kansas State to prove they’re the kings of the conference.

March Madness was a thrill for fans last year, as the Wildcats made it all the way to the Elite Eight (thanks for helping us out, UMBC). As Seth Davis’ tweet above indicated, Kansas State could be a popular pick to make it to the Final Four. They’ve certainly got the talent to get the job done this season.

For now, however, let’s focus on the task at hand and that’s winning the conference for the first time in six years.
