Mock drafts are everywhere and will continue to be until the draft takes place in late April. In Peter Schrager’s most recent mock draft, he had the Kansas City Chiefs going with Nasir Adderley out of Delaware.

Nearly every 2019 NFL Mock Draft that’s been out there this offseason has seen the Kansas City Chiefs going with a defensive player in the first round. After watching the Chiefs defense play last season, that makes perfect sense.

Peter Schrager of NFL Network (also a hardcore Patrick Mahomes fan) posted a mock draft a few days ago and was yet another analyst who had the Chiefs going defensively in round one. His pick for the Chiefs, however, was a different one than others floating around out there in draft land.

Nasir Adderley was Schrager’s pick for Kansas City and it could be the definition of a boom or bust pick.

"The Chiefs will look to add some depth to a defense that was both ravaged by injuries and beaten badly in big games. Adderley is a 6-foot tall ballhawking safety who had 11 interceptions while starring in college. If you want your connections, Chiefs GM Brett Veach is a Delaware Blue Hen through and through. If anyone knows the program, it’s the man making the pick for Kansas City."

Adderley certainly has the chops to play in the NFL, but he does hail from a smaller school in Delaware. As Schrager alluded to, Brett Veach has connections to Delaware and while that’s not reason enough for him to merit taking the Blue Hen safety, Adderley’s play is absolutely reason enough for him to be a first round pick.

Must Read. Chiefs will have to make tough decision regarding Eric Berry. light

The KC Chiefs need to consider what they’re going to do with Eric Berry moving forward. No, he won’t need surgery, but the expensive safety has not lived up to the bill of his big time contract. If cut after June 1st, the Chiefs can save $9 million (see link provided above for more info on that). That’s assuming Berry does not pass his physical.

The rest of the safeties on the Chiefs roster are average at best. Jordan Lucas had a promising 2018 campaign, but Eric Murray and Daniel Sorensen could both be cap casualties.

In other words, drafting a safety this year is a must. Nasir Adderley might have spent his collegiate career at a smaller school, but he was one of the best players in the Senior Bowl. He has continued to make a positive impression leading up to draft day.

What would you think of this pick, Chiefs fans?
