MINOR LEAGUERS WHO COULD MAKE IMPACT – FRANK SCHWINDEL

Every year there’s a guy in Spring Training who wows all of us and that guy last year was Frank Schwindel. The first baseman was clobbering balls right and left last spring, but never did get a chance with the big league squad.

Early on in Spring Training, “Frank the tank” hasn’t been as much of a power guy, but we’re only a week in. He’s batting .250 with a home run and two RBI in eight at bats.

Schwindel is someone who could see an opportunity in the bigs this year, especially if Ryan O’Hearn struggles. O’Hearn is the first baseman for the Royals right now and he had a respectable rookie season. It’ll be important for O’Hearn to improve greatly in year two because the calls for Schwindel to replace him will only grow louder as the season progresses.

Royals fans want to see Schwindel because the guy can mash the ball. Perhaps he could get a call-up later on and be a designated hitter if O’Hearn isn’t struggling, but hopefully we at least get to see Schwindel in some capacity this season.
